Our mission is to contribute significantly to the knowledge in Pharmacology through the different groups of ININFA researchers, who have included both the description of pharmacodynamic mechanisms as novel contributions in the field of pharmacokinetics.
71 doctoral theses have been carried out, more than 350 papers have been published in the most prestigious journals in the area and well-known researchers have been trained and carried out activities both nationally and internationally in different areas related to the development and teaching of pharmacology in different circles.
Many of the trained human resources currently occupy outstanding positions in the country and abroad in prestigious research centers, teaching centers, and companies in the pharmaceutical field. The knowledge generated and the human resources trained have positioned ININFA as a center of national and international reference in the area of pharmacological investigations.
Current research topics at ININFA are focused on studies aimed to characterize the molecular mechanisms underlying complex pathologies of high prevalence and clinical need in order to develop new pharmacological therapies. In this sense, an interdisciplinary approach to molecular and experimental pharmacology is carried out ranging from genetic and epigenetic studies, signal transduction, computer tools and nanomedicine to toxicological and behavioral experiments.
Our goal is to strengthen the integration and the deepening of the Institute's current research lines; contribute proactively to the rational development of new target-directed drugs; make existing drugs more effective and safe; validate models and bio-methods applicable in pre-clinical trials; define and validate predictive biomarkers of selection and therapeutic efficacy and participate actively in the transfer of this knowledge to the health and productive systems. This is achieved through an interdisciplinary approach that involves studies in silico, in vitro, in culture, in vivo and ex vivo.
Since its inception, ININFA has been collaborating with the industry and the academic sector developing translation activities for the productive sector of the country in many forms. Currently under the STAN format, ININFA provides highly qualified technological services to satisfy both the experimental needs of the research groups and the requirements of regulatory bodies and the industry with a view to a more intense development of the branch of services provided by the Institution.
Due to space needs, the Institute was able to request an infrastructure subsidy in the 2013 CONICET call that allowed, for the first time since the foundation of the Institute, to expand the available square meters with a space designed and built especially for the realization of in vivo tests and other special procedures, in accordance with international quality standards. This construction is located in a space assigned to the ININFA by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry (FFyB), UBA.
Our long-term mission, which has already been implemented proactively is: to increase quality standards in order to generate a field of excellence in research and teaching; develop research strategies that involve all or a group of research groups of complementary disciplines with objectives of greater scope and projection; transfer knowledge and methodologies developed generating collaborations with related institutions; cover vacant areas maintaining a policy of openness and integration; enhance the individual activities of each of the research groups that allow multiplying the inter-group and interdisciplinary activities. It will also be aimed at the integration of teaching activities, both undergraduate and postgraduate, the training of human resources at the doctoral level, the organization of national and international courses, seminars and special courses.
All these purposes have determined that ININFA accredits relations with national and international institutions of excellence. The purpose of the interdisciplinary work developed by ININFA is aimed at the development of pharmacology for the translation of genuine knowledge and highly qualified human resources, for the benefit of public health, public education and national science and technology.
